Hollywood actor and filmmaker George Clooney paid tribute to Cate Blanchett, an Australian actor and producer, at the San Sebastian Film Festival through a video message. The filmmaker also sent the actress a heartwarming video message when she received the prestigious Donostia Award during the film festival.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Australian actress wiped her tears away while watching George Clooney’s sweet video tribute to her. During the ceremony held at the Kursaal Theater, Blanchett expressed her surprise and emotion at receiving the award, which recognizes her significant contribution to film.

George Clooney couldn’t attend the event due to commitments in Venice, but he praised Blanchett through a video, stating, “There’s acting as a profession, and then there’s acting as an art. We recognize that art… I’ve been lucky enough to direct you and to act with you, and you always make everyone around you feel lucky.” He also elicited laughter throughout the venue with his playful admission about not wearing pants while at the festival.

 

Cate Blanchett reflected on her international career in her acceptance speech and said, “As an Australian working abroad, I’ve had the privilege of transcending many bodies… It has taken me all over the world and here now in Basque country, at this extraordinarily vibrant festival.”
