Pakistan reports its 4th case of Mpox.
Pakistan authorities on Monday reported a suspected case of Monkeypox (Mpox) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, taking the number of people affected by the virus to four. A resident of PoK, 47, who was from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, returned to Pakistan and was admitted to Islamabad’s Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) with Mpox symptoms. The patient showed symptoms consistent with Mpox and has been placed in a special ward designated for such cases at PIMS. Initially, Pakistan reported three cases of Mpox, all from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. It has also taken precautions to tackle the virus through a strict airport screening system.
A comprehensive policy against Mpox.
On Saturday, Pakistan’s government announced that it has formulated a comprehensive policy against the Mpox virus and that people shouldn’t worry about its spread. An official said that labs were allocated for diagnosis across all provinces and the federal capital. The official also said that cases were reported from Africa, and travelers from Africa, the US, and the Gulf countries would be monitored.
Since the current outbreak in January last year, at least 27,000 cases and over 1,100 deaths, mainly among children, have been reported in Congo.
