During a visit to her home state, she experienced the hazardous smoke from the 2018 Camp Fire, one of the deadliest and most destructive wildfires in California’s history. This experience sparked her passion for climate advocacy and led her to join the global climate strike movement inspired by Greta Thunberg.
In December 2018, Alexandria began her own solo climate strike outside the United Nations headquarters in New York City, braving the cold every Friday to demand urgent climate action. Her dedication soon drew attention, and she quickly emerged as a key leader in the youth climate movement.
In 2019, Alexandria founded Earth Uprising, an organization that focuses on climate education and equipping young people with the tools they need to advocate for meaningful change. The organization works globally to empower youth through workshops, campaigns, and initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of the climate crisis.
