Donald Trump decries two gold medal Olympic athletes.
At a rally in Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump made a few comments condemning two gold medal Olympic athletes, pledging to “keep men out of women’s sports,” talking about two athletes at the Paris Olympics 2024 who faced international scrutiny regarding misconceptions about their gender.
Trump does it again and condemns transgender people.
Donald Trump has time and again condemned transgender people. This time, too, he did that in his rallies focusing on transgender athletes, using language about gender identity that LGBTQ advocates say is wrong and harmful.
Imane Khalif and Li Yu-ting’s misconceptions about their gender.
Both Imane Khalif of Algeria and Taiwan’s Li Yu-ting faced misconceptions about their gender. This had started last year with the fallout from the Olympic-banished International Boxing Association’s decision to disqualify both fighters from the world championships for allegedly failing an eligibility test. Though Trump didn’t mention the athletes’ names, he remarked, “In the Olympics, they had two transitioned. They were men. They transitioned to women, and they were in the boxing.”
Besides Trump, many other prominent figures condemned the decision to let Khelif play in a women’s event. He had also previously referred to Khelif as a man. On Saturday, he did that again and described both athletes competing in the games as “crazy” and said, “It’s so demeaning to women.”
