Several Arab Americans who supported Biden in 2020 are now considering not voting for his party, which is a concern for Harris.
Kamala Harris, Vice President, met with the Arab Americans and Muslim leaders in Flint, Michigan, on Friday and aimed to win back voters who have been upset over America’s support for Israel’s actions in Gaza and Lebanon. Many Arab Americans who were strong supporters of Joe Biden in 2020 are now thinking over their voting decisions, which has emerged as a concern for Harris.
Harris speaks with Arab Americans and Muslim leaders.
Harris met Arab Americans and Muslim leaders in Flint, Michigan, and spoke with groups like Emgage Action, a Muslim American Advocacy Group (which recently endorsed her), and the American Task Force on Lebanon. She also met a friend, Hala Hijazi, who lost several family members in Gaza. As per a campaign official, Harris spoke about the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon and expressed her concern and worry about civilian casualties, emphasizing the need to stop violence.
CEO of Emgage Action shared their disappointment with America’s crisis handling.
CEO of Emgage Action, Wa’el Alzayat, shared the group’s disappointment with how the US has been handling the crisis and thus urged Harris to ask President Joe Biden for immediate action to end the fight. He said, “Emgage Action asked Vice President Harris to impress upon President Biden the urgency of bringing an immediate end to the violence.” The founder of the Arab American Institute, Jim Zogby, didn’t attend the meeting, and some other leaders from the Uncommitted National Movement protest campaign said they weren’t invited. This has shown rising frustration with the policies of the administration of Biden-Harris in the Middle East.
The Biden-Harris administration faced criticism for not doing much to stop Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which so far has resulted in over 41,000 Palestinian deaths.
