The outbreak of Mpox in Pakistan has led to UNICEF stepping in with an emergency vaccine tender.

Pakistan has been seeing a growing number of cases of Mpox, with Peshawar becoming its “epicenter.” the outbreak of Mpox in the country has been alarming, so much so that UNICEF has stepped in with emergency vaccine tender. The most recent patient in Peshawar is a 47-year-old man who tested positive on August 29 after he had recently returned from the Gulf region.

There have been rising concerns about the new strain of the Mpox virus in Peshawar, which has become an epicenter of the outbreak. A fifth case was reported on Sunday, as per Geo News. The most recent patient, as mentioned above, is a 47-year-old man who recently returned from the Gulf region. He has been isolated by Border Health Services staff.

On Sunday, Federal Director General of Health Shabana Saleem said, “This is the fifth Mpox case reported this year [in the country] and the fourth since WHO declared Mpox a global health emergency. The virus’s reemergence in Peshawar raises serious concerns about its transmission and demands immediate action.” She added, “Peshawar appears to be becoming an epicenter for Mpox cases. This trend is alarming, and we are doubling our efforts to prevent further spread.”

Saleem also stressed that all new and recent cases involved individuals from the Gulf region. The fourth case was identified in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, where authorities had previously confirmed three other virus infections.
