Uber is set to launch an AI assistant powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o. The assistant will provide personalized answers tailored as per the city and eligible incentives of the driver.
It is reported that Uber Technologies is going to roll out soon an AI assistant powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o to help drivers switch to electric vehicles (EVs) as part of its efforts to lower emissions. The American multinational transportation company that provides ride-hailing services has advocated a shift to EVs for several years and, thus, has pledged $800 million by 2040 to support its driver partners’ switching entirely to EVs.
Uber will help drivers transition to electric vehicles.
The ride-hailing company unveiled the AI assistant based on OpenAI’s technology GPT-4o on Tuesday at Uber’s Go-Get Zero event in London. It is said that the chatbot will be launched in the US next year and will later expand to other locations. Uber said the AI assistant would provide personalized answers tailored to the city and driver eligibility incentives. The company plans to expand the chatbot’s use to answer queries beyond EVs in early 2025. A report says that around 180,000 Uber drivers move to EVs in Europe and North America on a monthly basis.
5X faster adoption of EVs by Uber drivers, says the CEO.
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said, “Uber drivers are adopting EVs five times faster than the average motorist in the US, Canada, and Europe. In London, nearly 30% of all miles driven on Uber are now electric.” Besides this, Uber is launching a mentorship program connecting experienced EV drivers with drivers looking to switch to electric vehicles. It is also awarding top merchants on its food delivery platform $50,000 to help fund their own sustainability initiatives while reaching more customers.
Uber is kicking off a series of pop-ups for customers to try out EVs. Users in London can try the Lotus Eletre, and users in Miami, Dallas, and Los Angeles can reserve a ride in a Rivian R1.
